First Communion
Holy Communion, along with Baptism, is one of the two sacraments in Lutheranism. A Lutheran's First Communion is often preceded by a form of catechesis, which is education on religious doctrine.First Communion is typically done on Maundy Thursday in your child's 5th grade year. This is also the time when they can become acolytes which is a way to serve on Sunday mornings.
When a Lutheran child receives Holy Communion for the first time, that child is supposed to understand what the sacrament means. The most basic teaching of the Lutheran Church — and the easiest and quickest to learn — is Luther's Small Catechism in the Book of Concord. The Small Catechism is taught to children before a First Communion.
Acolytes
The word acolyte means a "companion" or "one who helps." In accepting this position you will be serving as a companion or helper to your pastor: performing a number of important functions before, during, and at the close of the worship service. Acolytes are trained in the fall of their 5th grade year.
Confirmation
Confirmation is a milestone year in your child’s walk with Jesus and their life of faith. They will experience unforgettable retreats, engaging biblical teaching, and so much more. Your child will grow in understanding about what they believe, they will make friends that will last a lifetime, and they will continue to build upon the faith foundation that you as parents have already begun. This program is open to students entering grades 6-8 in the fall of 2019. Youth are confirmed in the fall of their 9th grade year.
