Family Ministries at Emmanuel has a three-fold purpose: Providing fellowship opportunities, care and support in time of need, and service to our community.
Helping Hands. Through the ministry of Helping Hands, our volunteers are serving members who are in need of meal assistance due to expected or unexpected events in their lives. Click here for more information.
Prayer Network. Through our Prayer Network, we offer the prayers of the congregation up to Our Lord. Communication through the church office keeps the Prayer Chain aware of congregational and individual needs. We have both a phone network and an email network.
Bereavement Ministry. Emmanuel needs volunteers to organize and provide luncheons/receptions following funeral services. Please contact Shari Reaves or call 252-1795 if you would like to help.
School Interaction. Family Ministries realizes that an extension of our congregation is our student body of Emmanuel Lutheran. With that in mind, Family Ministries reaches out to students at registration, Advent and Lent by the distribution of age appropriate material such as Advent Calenders, pencils, and other materials. Contact the school office to help.
Connecting Events. Family Ministries co-ordinates annual events that bring together our church and school families, in worship, food and fun activities for all ages. Examples of such events are tubing on the French Broad River, picnics, pool parties, and special meals and receptions! Contact Shari Reaves to volunteer to help.
Adopt-A-College Student. Every Fall, Family Ministries gathers the names and addresses of our members who are either in Military Service or in college and sends these names out for "adoption" to the congregational body. We ask that those who adopt communicate at least monthly with the students or Military personnel, giving them news of happenings at Emmanuel and the Asheville area, "goody boxes," and prayers. The goal is to keep those who are away in communication with our Emmanuel family. Contact us to adopt a college student.
Annual Easter Breakfast. Please join the Emmanuel Congregation as we come together in fellowship for an Easter Breakfast on Easter Sunday. The breakfast takes place in the Fellowship Hall followed by an Easter egg hunt!
Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Please join us as we come together in fellowship for a Dinner of Thanksgiving usually held two Wednesdays before the Day of Thanksgiving at 6:00 pm in the gym.
Come Celebrate the Season of Christmas with us! Every year we enjoy the performances of the school's K-8 Christmas Program, the Early Childhood Christmas Program, and the church choir's Christmas Cantata. We also hold extra services on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm during the Advent season, culminating in 2 candlelight services (7:00/11:00) on Christmas Eve with treat bags for children, and a 10:00 am service on Christmas Day.
Annual Octogenarian Meal! A wonderful way to honor and celebrate our seniors of 80+ years of age at Emmanuel. Held once a year in the spring (May/June) in the church fellowship hall/cafeteria. Adult and youth volunteers serve a very nice free dinner in a different themed setting with music and games each year.
Annual ELC&S "Back to School" Pool Party! This is a church and school connecting event. In August, the Sunday before the Service of Blessing is scheduled, Emmanuel rents out pool time and where we invite church and school families to come out for an evening of food and fun at an area pool. It's a great time of fellowship, reconnecting and sharing summer stories.
Annual Service of Blessing. At the start of every school year (August), we have special services that recognize and bless ALL our local teachers and school children who go to public, private or home schools. A special picnic follows the late services.
Annual Sunday School RALLY Day! At the begining of each school year, the church marks the start of it's Fall Sunday School/Adult Bible study classes the first Sunday after Labor Day weekend. In the fall, we usually do a church-wide Bible study series that runs about 2 months. As the school/church year continues we introduce several different Bible Study topics for folks to choose from.
Bushwackers: The Bushwhackers tend to the Emmanuel grounds to keep them tidy and attractive. We gather at 8:00 am the third Saturday of each month and work until noon. We break at 10:00 am for refreshments and fellowship. If you would like to lend a hand to support Emmanuel, that does not involve a meeting and get's you into "the outdoors," please give me a call! - Gerry Hardesty: 299-3315 (NOTE: We break November - March.)
We are hopeful that this brief overview has increased your awareness of the Family Ministry Service. We would both welcome and appreciate your participation in our Ministry area!
