Reformation Sunday is Sunday, October 29. In celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation our musicians will be performing a special Reformation Cantata entitled “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott” (A Mighty Fortress is Our God) – Cantata no. 80 by J.S. Bach at both the 8:30 am and 11:00 am Liturgical services in the sanctuary. There will be no Praise and Worship Service on this day. Refreshments will be served during the Sunday School hour and after the 11:00 am services.

ELIADA Home Corn Maze Youth Event!  Sunday October 29 at 3pm. 100% of ticket proceeds go to help the children at Eliada's Childrens Hospital. Family Movie Night - 4th Grade Trip Fundraiser! Come see "Hotel Transylvania" on Friday, October 27 at 6:30 pm in the gym. ELS Students,their family and friends and church members are all invited. Cost: $5 per person advanced ticket / $6 per person at the door. Refreshments, pizza, popcorn and treats will be available for purchase at the movie. Bring a pillow, blanket and wear your pajamas! It will be a fun time for all and a great way to support the ELS 4th Grade trip this year.

Christmas Eve Treat Bags: If you have left-over Halloween candy or wish to donate some bags of candy for the Christmas Eve Treat Bags for the kids, now is a good time to get them for when the candy goes on sale at Halloween. Please only donate candy WITHOUT Halloween wrappers on them. A box will be set-up in the church office for donations; thank you.

NEW-Birthday Card Program: We thought it might be nice to send our members celebrating nonagenarian birthdays (age 90-99) birthday cards for their accomplishment! If you would like to participate, please check the church bulletins or newsletter for names of those celebrating a 90+ birthday. Please check the online church directory, your printed directory or call the church office for addresses. 

Emmanuel's Golf Disaster Relief Fundraiser: To help raise relief funds toward Hurricane and Las Vegas victims, we are holding a fundraising golf outing on Wednesday, October 25 at the Asheville Municipal Golf Course starting at 3:30 pm. Cost for a 9 hole game: $18.65 per person. Dinner at Webo's BBQ at River Ridge Shopping Center will follow. The price is for the game only - there is an additional cost for dinner and any funds you wish to donate toward this event. >Bereavement Meal Support: Help with setting up, sersving and cleaning up of light reception-style meals at Memorial Services or helping prepare a meal for families to take home to help feed family members attending the service.

Linus Blankets, sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans  are a group of folks who meet every 2nd Tuesday in the Fellowship Hall who make special blankets for children going through some form of crisis or tragedy, such as hospitalizations, accidents, fires, etc. They are VERY simple to make and are a lot of fun so come join us! Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts meet on Tuesday nights: Boy Scouts at 7:00 pm in the church narthex/lobby area, and Cub Scouts at 7:00 pm in the church Fellowship Hall. Boy Scouts, one of the traditional membership divisions of the BSA, is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, or are 11 years old or have completed the 5th grade but not yet 18 years old. The program achieves the BSA's objective of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness. For younger boys, we also have a Cub Scout troop. The Mission and Outreach Singers were formed 12 years ago as an outreach ministry of Emmanuel.  They go to area Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Prisons and Shelters. Monthly visits to different facilities are scheduled where they share scripture, have prayer and pass out devotional booklets. Members find that while they go to be a blessing, they always come away feeling that they are the ones who were blessed.  To find out more, contact Doug Greene at 658-2114.

Prayer Ministry: Here at Emmanuel, we are a praying congregation. We pray for those who are suffering, be it physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually, for members of our church, friends, neighbors, our community and for our nation. We also pray for our spiritual leaders and the leaders of our local, state and national governing bodies. Volunteer Opportunities in our Community:

—Serving Lunch at the Veteran’s Quarters: On the 1st, 2nd, 3rd (and 5th) Monday’s of every month, folks at Emmanuel provide lunch for the men at our local Veteran’s Shelter on Tunnel Road. Want to help? Contact Sheila Edwards at 615-504-0642; thank you.

—Serving Dinner at the Steadfast House: This Ministry serves Women and Children who are coming out of abusive relationships. Every 3rd Wednesday of the month folks from Emmanuel serve an evening meal for these broken families.
